About Our Vessel
Piikea is a spacious 45-foot SportFisher Uniflite, originally constructed in 1978 and completely refurbished in 2017. As one of Kauai’s larger fishing vessels, it features an enclosed, air-conditioned cabin, a marine toilet, a flying bridge, a microwave, a refrigerator and fresh water shower. Piikea has exceptional stability, ensuring an enjoyable fishing experience. We have a large back deck with coolers for seating, a fighting chair and a hard cover bridge/helm station with seating upstairs for shade and to take in the views.
We look forward to welcoming you aboard Piikea on your next Deep Sea Fishing tour here on Kauai!

Meet the Team
Meet the owners and crew of Makai Sportfishing.

Robert Silva
Kalaheo, Kauai
Captain Rob, co-owner and operator of Makai Sportfishing, brings 29 years of experience on the water. A third-generation fisherman, he has spent his entire life fishing out of Port Allen, learning the craft from his father at a young age. His passion for fishing led him to become a charter captain, working with several companies before taking the leap to start his own. In 2019, he and Sean officially launched Makai Sportfishing, though their journey began long before then. Today, Rob proudly runs the Vessel Piikea, continuing his family’s legacy and sharing his love for the ocean with others.

Sean Lawrence
Omao, Kauai
Captain Sean, co-owner and operator of Makai Sportfishing, brings over 20 years of experience on the water. While Makai Sportfishing officially launched in 2019, its roots run much deeper. Growing up on the water with his family, Sean developed a lifelong passion for fishing and the ocean. He moved to Kauai in early 2007 for diving but soon found himself fishing with Rob and his dad on weekends—and what started as a hobby soon became a career. After working on various charter boats to master the trade, Sean and Rob set out to create their own company, Makai Sportfishing, where he now captains the Vessel Pikea.

Sylas Farias
Hanapepe, Kauai
Sylas grew up fishing alongside his dad out of Port Allen, sparking a lifelong passion for the ocean. While still in high school, he turned that passion into a career, working on fishing and Na Pali tour boats. In 2022, he joined the Makai Sportfishing team part-time, bringing with him a deep-rooted connection to the waters of Kauai. Born and raised on the island’s southwest side, Sylas’s love for boating and fishing makes him a natural fit for our crew.
